Mechanical and Acoustic Response of Low-Permeability Sandstone under Multilevel Cyclic Loading-Unloading Stress Path

چکیده

Low-permeability sandstone reservoirs have been widely used as a gas storage medium worldwide. Compared with the high porosity and permeability of sandstone, low-permeability may present different mechanical (deformation, damage or failure) acoustic responses under cyclic loading-unloading processes caused by high-rate injection–production underground storage. In this paper, multistage triaxial loading–unloading tests continuously increased upper limit stress were carried out on six confining pressures. The results showed that superposition stress–strain curves become much denser in process each level stress. Based variation elastic modulus alternating loads, behavior loading is divided into three stages: hardening, stability softening. According to evolution emission (AE) signal parameters, AE counts appear intensively at initial stage then gradually stabilize. peak frequency presents zonal distribution, which low-frequency, intermediate-frequency high-frequency zones. Low pressure leads small b-value. RA–AF distribution implies mixed tensile–shear cracks are generated during process, shear more obviously developed.

Health Monitoring for Composite under Low-Cycle Cyclic Loading, Considering Effects of Acoustic Emission Sensor Type

Composites have been widely used in the aerospace industry. Due to the requirement of a high safety for such structures, they could be considered for health monitoring. The acoustic emission approach is one of most effective methods for identifying damages in composites. In this article, standard specimens were made from carbon fibers and the epoxy resin, with the [03/902/...

Predicting Depth and Path of Subsurface Crack Propagation at Gear Tooth Flank under Cyclic Contact Loading

In this paper, a two-dimensional computational model is proposed for predicting the initiation position and propagation path of subsurface crack of spur gear tooth flank. In order to simulate the contact of teeth, an equivalent model of two contacting cylinders is used. The problem is assumed to be under linear elastic fracture mechanic conditions and finite element method is used for numerical...

Reliability of piezoceramic patch sensors under cyclic mechanical loading

Piezoceramic patch sensors have to withstand the primary stresses and strains of a structure during operation. In the leading project ‘Adaptronics’ a lifespan of 106 cycles at 0.1% strain was required for sensors applied on components of steel and carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). In order to test the reliability of the patches themselves and of their adhesion on the substrate, special fo...

Evaluation of Thermo-mechanical stress in work rolls of ring rolling mill under thermal and mechanical loading

The defect in work rolls directly influence the forming cost and the final shape of the product. The researchers tend to investigate the thermo-mechanical stress in work roll of rolling machines. These stresses may reduce the roll life. Since the investigation of the thermo-mechanical stress in work roll with real-conditions is complex, comprehensive studies by means of numerical methods are av...

Numerical assessment of influence of confining stress on Kaiser effect using distinct element method

Nowadays acoustic emission (AE) testing based on the Kaiser Effect (KE) is increasingly used to estimate the in-situ stress in laboratories. In this work, this effect is assessed on cylindrical specimens in numerical simulations of the cyclic loadings including loading, unloading, and re-loading cycles using a 3D code called the particle flow code (PFC) based upon the distinct element method. T...
